Tonight the Park City School District held their third presentation on redesigning the high school. Architecture VCBO led the discussion with approximately 80 people in attendance. Three xommitee members were in attendance. Joe Conley explained process that the committee has followed: * Started meeting April 21st, 2015 * Met weekly, then once a month since then. * Team made up of primarily teachers with 4 or 5 community members. * Process has been transparent with all meetings being published on the line * No one from administration over-extended their influence. * This is the last of the 3 community meeting and we'll make a presentation to the board in the next few weeks * We have heard that some people are upset that there aren't cost estimates, that's because of all the options (6 of them). We should get cost once qets narrowed down to 2 options Dr Conley: Once process is narrowed down to two options, we will use Hughes to provide cost estimates. It is also within the board's option to change any options presented due to public feedback. VCBO (Wendy from VCBO) presented: * We are looking at all the needs and how everything works together. A big component is based on big picture adjaceny questions. What should be next to other things. The big driver is moving the 9th graders into the high school. With ninth grade thre ar eimpacts to classes, music, lunch room, CTE, and physical education. * For music, its a good example, there used to be two music classes, now there are 5. * The process began with brainstorming around programming. Want to make sure qwe are using 21st century tools and teaching. * We had needs prioritized by space needs. We have been honing in on space needs. * This was catalyst for coming up with 4 options. Option 1: * Competition gym is too small * So made stand alone pe building where baseball field is now * Expanded to the south for the 9th graders * Extend west wing to the north for CTE * Dosier stays in place but may add locker room space * Arts expanded area to the north gym * CTE space will be expanded to better serve engineering, woodworking, toolwork, etc. * Commons area would be expanded Classroom would be exanded * Person asked where baseball fields would go, and VCBO said they needed to figure that out * Need a more concrete site plan once we get to two options * Person asks question about "last time there was a huge issue with how these changes may impact power, gas lines, etc. How does this impact it?" Answer was we are looking at it and we may look at upgrading many systems with support efficient systems. * Person asking about what do teachers classrooms loo like. VCBO says that 21st century learning looks more like college. Where teachers have offices and move between classrooms as needed. Looking at how we can provide flexibility for 21st century learning. Will try to achieve 75% of clasrooms used. * Capacity of school will be 2,000 students. * All roofs will be solar ready so panels can be added. * Where will all teachers offices be put? Answer, wea re exploring the spaces * Question: Would it be built like an office where its easily modifiable? Answer, "yes." * Would lose bus dropp off area and first row of parking adjacent to the bus drop off area. Option 2: * Similar to option 1 * Instead of expanding to the south, a second level of classes are added to the west wing. * CTE is in its own building * Big disucssion about how sports events are too close to Eccles, so at Sundance there was too much mixing and too crowded. * CTE building is back of house and have to go outside to get to the facility * Two standalone buildings gives the opportunity for 2 state of the art facility. * Question: Is goal to be parking neutral? Answer: Students are studying that now. Option 3: * Would be moving Dozier 40 feet or so * Not ax expensive as moving the whole field * PE facility is added adjacent to Dozier field * CTE option would be moved * Impact to parking on west side * This new pe area would not be big enough for the city/county proposed field house. Option 4: * Only optoin that moves Dozier field to east side of school. * dmeolsish the west wing * Build PE dfacility to far west. * Benefit of moving Dozier is that the entire expansion could be done while kids are in school. * Downside is that its a long coridor to get students fro one place to another * Don't know where Dozier would go * TMJH would be demolished Option 3A: * People concerned with traffic coming off Lucky John * This option attempts to avoid traffic on Lucky John * Brings CTE back in to school * Pro is that everything is consolidated and compact for student access * PE is separated from Eccles Sequencing (how will the approach to cxonbstruction be done: * Build new spaces first * Build 9th grader spaces first * Athletic is second focus * Then start remodel * PCSD website says it will take a year... but is that reasoable? Answer was No, we could get the 9th grade spaces done but it will extend longe than a year. Cost: Question: Are there some options that cost more? Answer: Yes, moving Dozier woudl be more expensive. Also new construction is more expensive than renovation. Would the classroom cost for 9th graders be $18 million or less, so if the bond fails, we could pay for that out of capital funds and wait for bond to pass for the rest? Athletic facility: Q: What will go in there. A: 1 full competition gym with bleachers. There will be two courts that are exposed when the bleacher are moved. Looking at adding a another competition job. Traffic Q: Maybe there should be more emphasis on busing and reducig students driving to school. A: We are looking at everything. The state wanted the schoool distirct to help with it. Q: Is it better to have a school where it is compact or is it better to spread it out.
