Comment Policy
We at the Park Rag have resisted adding comments for a long time. We’ve rarely found any site, using comments, that hasn’t become worse because of comments allowed. However, the site Reddit.com does give us hope. Comments there do seem to add value. So, we are going to give it a try.
With that in mind, here is the basic rule: Treat everyone as a human. We’re all in this together.
You’ve probably noticed that the Park Rag disagrees with many people and actions across our community. However, we try to do it with respect. We will hold you to that same standard. If you wouldn’t say it to your priest, dog, and/or mother’s face, don’t say it here. For instance we’ve seen something similar to the following:
“Mayor XXXXXX, you are the dumbest piece of crap I have ever seen. I don’t know how you got elected but you are clearly a fuck*** reta**”
The Park Rag way would be:
“Mayor XXXXXX, I strongly disagree with the way you have handled ______________. There are three things that give me concern. First, there was no oversight by…”
The first example just makes you sound like an idiot and by default the Park Rag suffers because people think the site is “full of idiots”. The second actually contributes to the conversation. We would rather kill off comments than be a site full of idiots. Note, we fully expect to kill off comments, but we’ll give it a chance.
Likewise, please give other commenters the same respect. Disagreeing is fine, and why most of us are here, but please be smart.
A few legal items:
- All commenters are responsible for content they produce.
- We will never provide your email address to someone else unless required to do so by law.
- Park Rag is not responsible for content it does not produce.
- Don’t do anything illegal. If you do, it’s all on you. We fully cooperate with law enforcement.
- The Park Rag retains the right to remove, edit, and censor content. This includes banning frequent offenders.
- It always seems comment abuse takes new forms, so it is likely someone will do something we never thought of and will have to address it and make new rules.
- The Park Rag may change this policy from time to time.
- Hold Harmless: All comments within this blog are the responsibility of the commenter, not the blog owner, administrator, contributor, editor, or author. By submitting a comment on our blog, you agree that the comment content is your own, and to hold Park Rag LLC and all subsidiaries and representatives harmless from any and all repercussions, damages, or liability.
Our last piece of advice… when you’re writing something, pretend you are British and in the House of Lords. When you read it out loud, if it sounds appropriate, you have probably found the right balance. That strategy usually works for us.
