Dakota Pacific or the Olympics

The gloves are off.

It’s time for the Utah Legislature to understand that their decision to support reckless development like Dakota Pacific has a cost. Dakota Pacific isn’t about making our community better. It isn’t about affordable housing. It is about making a developer rich(er).

For so long, the Summit County Council has said that we should strive for a seat at the table.. Therefore, they acquiesce to the State of Utah. It is also true that you generally don’t want to mess with the Legislature. They are the folks that brought you property tax equalization, so your taxes go to other school districts. The Legislature generally argues that this is for the benefit of the state as a whole. Yet, this seems different.

The Legislature seems to be supporting land developers. Yet, what I think the Legislature doesn’t understand this time is that it’s different. Thousand of people have shown up at public meetings to stop Dakota Pacific. The Legislature’s folly needs to have consequence.
