So we are hearing Deer Valley concerts can be a …

… SHIT SHOW

OK, at least the most recent Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett concert. We’ve heard reports that some chairs were checked 3 times for the proper height, causing the line to BACK UP. We’ve heard that there was not enough parking. We’ve heard that people who paid GOOD money for ticket, actually could not even see the stage.

It’s to the level where we saw some tickets for an upcoming show, at Deer Valley, that we were interested in, but once we realized it was at Deer Valley, we decided we didn’t want to go to a show THAT BAD.

We are somewhat dreading the upcoming Brandie Carlile show at Deer Valley, that we already have tickets for. Do we have to get in line 5 hours before the show? We are lamenting that she didn’t just go to Red Butte like she normally does. Red Butte knows how to have a show. What is her promoter thinking?

The fact is, whether the rumors are spot on (or not) the summer concert execution appears to be hurting Deer Valley’s brand. Park City is becoming more of a summer destination and there is an opportunity to have the best shows in the best place around.

There is also the opportunity to squander that.

We’re worried that the latter is happening.

During a time when we need to make sure there is a counter balance to Vail, we’re worried that Vail’s little Saturday night shows on the hill at Canyons are handled better than major performances at Deer Valley.

We hope that Lyle and Emmylou were an anomaly. Having been to a few shows before that, we’re not confident in that.

Perhaps Deer Valley is trying to ride its winter coat tails into summer. It looks like that may be a mistake.
